Electrical Service Upgrade Rebate for Greater Victoria BC
At Lenius & Osborn Electric, we’re thrilled to inform homeowners in Greater Victoria and the surrounding regions about the Electrical Service Upgrade Rebate offered through the CleanBC Better Homes and Home Renovation Rebate Program. This initiative provides a $500 rebate for upgrading your home’s electrical service to 100, 200, or 400 amps when you switch from a fossil fuel-based primary heating system to an electric heating system.
Rebate Overview
Rebate Amount: $500
Who Can Apply: Residents of British Columbia living in eligible homes with residential utility accounts from BC Hydro, FortisBC, or a municipal utility.
Deadline: Applications must be submitted within 6 months of the invoice date.
Qualifying Products: To qualify, you must upgrade your electrical service to 100, 200, or 400 amps in conjunction with replacing a fossil fuel (oil, propane, or natural gas) primary space or water heating system with an electric space heating heat pump or hot water heat pump.

Rebate Requirements
Rebate Amount: $500
Requirements: You must upgrade your electrical service to 100, 200, or 400 amps in combination with a rebate-eligible upgrade from a fossil fuel primary space or water heating system to an electric heat pump or hot water heat pump.
Primary Fuel Before Upgrade: Fossil Fuel (oil, propane, or natural gas)
Requirements for the Home:
- The home must be a year-round primary residence, at least 12 months old.
- You must have a residential utility account with FortisBC, BC Hydro, or a municipal utility.
- Eligible home types include:
- Single-family homes (detached dwellings)
- Secondary suites in single-family homes with separate utility meters
- Permanently fixed mobile homes with complete utility connections
- Duplexes, triplexes, row homes, or townhomes with individual utility meters (utility accounts must be in the resident’s or homeowner’s name; accounts in the name of a strata corporation are not eligible).
- The home must be converting from a fossil fuel primary space or water heating system to an electric system.
Requirements for Your Contractor:
- All new equipment must be installed by a licensed contractor with a GST number and a valid B.C. business license for the relevant trade.
- Self-installations are not eligible.
- You must provide invoices from both the utility (BC Hydro or FortisBC) and the electrical contractor.
Requirements for the Upgrade:
- The new electrical service must be an upgrade to 100, 200, or 400 amps.
- The upgrade must be completed within 6 months of installing an eligible heat pump or heat pump water heating system.
Eligible expenses covered by the rebate include utility connection fees, electrical panel upgrades, service mast alterations or replacements, conduit replacements, meter base alterations or replacements, weather head alterations or replacements, and labor costs.
Deadlines
Submit your application within 6 months of the invoice date of the upgrade.
How to Apply
Before starting your application, carefully review the Program Requirements and Additional Terms and Conditions to confirm your eligibility. Purchase an eligible heat pump and have it installed by a licensed contractor. If switching from oil, propane, or natural gas, include proof of your fossil fuel system removal. Once your upgrades are installed, complete the online application and upload all supporting documentation, including copies of all receipts and invoices.
