CleanBC Go Electric Rebates for Homes and Workplaces in Greater Victoria BC
At Lenius & Osborn Electric, we’re excited to share that the CleanBC Go Electric EV Charger Rebate Program is now available to help residents and businesses in Greater Victoria and surrounding areas transition to clean transportation. This program, funded by the Government of B.C.’s Ministry of Energy, Mines and Low Carbon Innovation, and occasionally supported by the Government of Canada, is administered by BC Hydro to make EV charger installation more affordable.
The CleanBC Go Electric Program offers significant rebates for the purchase and installation of EV chargers in homes, multi-unit residential buildings, and workplaces. This initiative is a vital part of the Province’s CleanBC plan, aimed at making clean transportation accessible and affordable for all British Columbians. The Province of BC Is Stepping up
As of October 24, 2023, the Province of B.C. has allocated $6.59 million in funding for the 2023/24 fiscal year to fully reopen the CleanBC Go Electric EV Charger Rebate Program. Applications for all program offers will be accepted starting October 31, 2023. It’s important to apply soon, as funding is limited and will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis.
Previously available federal funding through Canada’s Zero Emission Vehicle Infrastructure Program (ZEVIP) for condos and workplaces is nearly exhausted and will no longer be available after October 31, 2023. However, applications submitted by this date that do not receive ZEVIP funding will automatically be considered for the new provincial funding, with no need to reapply.
From October 31, 2023, the CleanBC Go Electric EV Charger Rebate Program will be entirely funded by the Province of B.C., returning all rebates to their normal levels.
Rebate Offers and Eligibility
Single-Family Homes
Owners of single-family homes, row homes, and duplexes in Greater Victoria can receive a rebate covering up to 50% of the purchase and installation costs of an eligible Level 2 EV charger, up to a maximum of $350. Additionally, BC Hydro offers up to $250 in top-up funding for the installation of an eligible smart EV charger.
Apartment, Condo, and Townhome Complexes
There are two provincial rebate options for multi-unit residential buildings:
EV Ready Rebates
- EV Ready Plan Rebate: Covers up to 75% of the costs, up to $3,000, for creating a professional EV Ready plan, ensuring at least one parking space per residential unit is prepared for EV charging.
- EV Ready Infrastructure Rebate: Provides up to 50% of the costs for installing the necessary electrical infrastructure, up to $600 per parking space, with a project maximum of $120,000.
- EV Charger Rebate: Offers up to 50% of the costs, up to $1,400 per charger for purchasing and installing Level 2 networked EV chargers, up to a maximum of $14,000.
Standalone EV Charger Rebate
- Provides up to 50% of the costs, up to $2,000 per charger for purchasing and installing a Level 2 networked EV charger, up to a maximum of $14,000.
Pre-approval from BC Hydro is required before purchasing and installing an EV charger in multi-unit residential buildings.
Workplaces
Businesses in Greater Victoria can benefit from a rebate of up to 50% of the costs, up to $2,000 per charger, for the purchase and installation of eligible Level 2 networked EV chargers for employee use, with a maximum rebate of $14,000. Eligible workplaces can submit separate applications for different locations, up to a maximum of four.
Pre-approval from BC Hydro is necessary before purchasing and installing an EV charger in workplace settings.
